Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has said it is clear the Tories have no idea what they are doing in the ongoing Brexit negotiations.
Martina Anderson said:
“Since the EU referendum last year the Tories have been lacking any clear direction or strategy on Brexit and that is now being seen in the negotiation process.
“Now we have the former head of the British diplomatic service, Simon Foster acknowledging that the negotiations have not begun well, which is an understatement to say the least.
“No significant progress has been made to date in the negotiations because of a lack of preparation and engagement from the British.
“Instead they are frustrating and delaying the process because they don’t want to get into a serious negotiation over their financial commitment to the EU.
“While they engage in foot-dragging, the economy is being damaged, the Good Friday Agreement undermined and the rights of citizens put at risk.
“The Tories may not have a clue what they are doing but one thing is clear, that we need to secure designated special status for the north within the EU. It is be most credible alternative to the disastrous Tory Brexit agenda.”
