Calling on Agriculture Minister Michelle O’Neill to give serious consideration to extending the Trading Deadline for Entitlements Sinn Féin MEP, Martina Anderson said:

“I have always supported the position that recognises the importance of agriculture to the north of Ireland arguing for the maximum amount of funding and flexibility of regulation for farming families. I have also always argued for a fair and equitable distribution of the SFP to ensure that active farmers are prioritised over landowners.

“We are in the process of moving to a flat rate of payments which I support and would also be hopeful that the Minister moves on this sooner rather than later.

“I recognise that there could be a degree of uncertainty among farmers and landowners because of the change announced by the Minister as to what constitutes an active farmer. This could necessitate accessing professional advice on what is the best course of action for some farmers, such as whether or not to buy or sell entitlements.

“To ensure that farmers can adequately consider the best options for them and that no farmer loses out by default, I am calling on Minister O’Neill to consider an extension of the Entitlements Trading Deadline beyond 2nd April.” CRÍOCH
