After hosting a delegation from the GAA, IRFU, IFA and FAI and facilitating very useful and productive meetings with influential EU Officials recently Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has urged the sporting bodies to make use of the contacts made to access available EU Funding streams.
Commenting on the visit, Ms Anderson said.
“With the beginning of the current 7 year funding cycle in January 2014 this was a very opportune moment for the three codes to visit Brussels to discuss the funding opportunities that exist at EU level. Significantly the new Erasmus + Program 2014-2020 with a distinct funding stream for Sport represents the first time in the EU’s history that there is a designated budget line for sports projects.
“Representatives from all three codes engaged enthusiastically with Commission officials from the Department of Education and Culture who manage the Erasmus + Program. There were other very useful meetings including that with the EU Sports platform where we discussed the importance of networking with other sports organisation across Europe. In addition to Erasmus + we also discussed other funding sources for sports related projects such as research activities in Horizon 2020 and potential funding from PEACE IV.
“This was an extremely beneficial visit. My objective was to introduce organisations such as the GAA, IRFU, IFA and FAI to the opportunities of EU funding and assure them that I will assist them in any way I can in order to get the support they need in the process of securing funding”, she concluded.”
