Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has said there is an awareness in the European institutions that the British government’s Brexit agenda would be a disaster for Ireland.
The Sinn Féin MEP said:
“I led a delegation of representatives of Border Communities Against Brexit and Sinn Féin representatives from north and south today to discuss Brexit with key players in the European Institutions.
“We met with representatives from leading groups in the European Parliament to discuss the disastrous impact Brexit would have on Ireland and on border communities in particular.
“There is an awareness in Europe of the unique circumstances we face and the impact Brexit would have.
“We also met with MEPs from Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and representatives of the Irish government in Brussels and impressed on them the need for the Irish government to act in the national interest of all Irish citizens under the Good Friday Agreement.
“Tomorrow we will meet representatives from the office of Michel Barnier, the European Union’s chief negotiator on Brexit to get support for our campaign for designated special status for the North within the EU.”
