Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has said farmers and food producers are becoming increasingly concerned about the lack of direction from the Tories on Brexit.
Martina Anderson said:
“I met today with representatives of the Ulster Farmers Union and members of the NI Food and Drink Association to discuss the impact of Brexit.
“It is clear that famers and those in agriculture are concerned about Brexit and the lack on any sense of a plan coming from the Tories on what will happen to the industry afterwards.
“This uncertainty, particularly around the future of the Customs Union, is worrying many farmers and food and drink producers.
“And the information coming from the Tories is doing little to allay those fears.
“The best way to protect our agriculture and food and drink production sectors is to retain our membership of the Customs Union through securing designated special status for the north within the EU.”
