Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has welcomed a UN vote condemning the unilateral decision of the US to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Martina Anderson said:

“The decision by US President Donald Trump to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel quite rightly drew widespread criticism from the international community.

“Last night’s vote by the UN to condemn and reject the move, declaring it ‘null and void’ is a concrete indication of the anger at the decision globally.

“The attempt by the US President to influence the UN vote by threatening to cut off aid was deplorable.

“Now that the international community has spoken, we need to see action to follow this vote.

“The international community has a responsibility to support the people of Palestine, to oppose Israeli aggression and repeated breaches of international law.”
