Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has welcomed organic farming being included in the new Rural Development Plan announced by Agriculture Minister Michelle O’Neill.
Ms Anderson said;
“The inclusion of support for organic farmers in the Rural Development Plan announced by my party colleague Michelle O’Neill is a welcome boost for the sector.
“I have met with representatives from the organic farming sector on a number of occasions and know the quality of their produce.
“This move will give confidence to the organic farming sector and ultimately provide more choice to consumers.
“It now means there will be a co-ordinated approach to organic farming across Ireland.
“Inclusion in the Rural Development Plan will also provide £2.8 million for farmers who wish to convert to organic farming so it will encourage more people to explore this as an option.”
