Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has warned of a growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza as a result of power shortages.
Martina Anderson said:
“Conditions in Gaza have been deteriorating for some time and now the people there are forced to live without electricity for 20 hours a day.
“Sewage facilities have also broken down, causing contamination and leading to serious public health fears.
“Health provision in the area is on the verge of collapse with mounting pressure on hospitals which are without power.
“Israel has a responsibility to increase the power supply to Gaza in order to address the growing humanitarian crisis.
“Instead it has reduced the power supply, adding to the pain and suffering of the population of Gaza.
“The international community needs to act to save lives in Gaza and end the humanitarian and public health crisis.”
