Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has called on the international community to act to demonstrate solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Speaking on International Day of Solidarity with the people of Palestine, Martina Anderson said:

“Sinn Féin has a long and proud history of standing in solidarity with the people of Palestine.

“Our elected representatives raise the concerns of the Palestinian people in every fora we are elected to across Ireland and in Europe.

“We have repeatedly called for action from the international community to defend the rights of Palestinians and oppose Israeli aggression, including the continued expansion of illegal settlements.

“Almost three years ago the Dáil passed a Sinn Féin motion calling for official state recognition of the state of Palestine but the Irish government have still failed to act on it.

“It is long past the time that the Irish government, and other states demonstrated solidarity with the people of Palestine by recognising their state.

“The international community, and the EU in particular, must act in solidarity with the Palestinian people.”
