Anderson calls on MEPs to back suspension of Israel trade agreement

Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has written to MEPs asking them to sign a letter calling for the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement.

Ms Anderson, the chair of the EU’s delegation to the Palestinian Legislative Council, said;

“The international community, including the European Union, have a key role to play in supporting the people of Palestine.

“One practical step towards this would be the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, which allows largely unrestricted trade between Europe and Israel.

“It also allows Israel to take part in more EU programs and projects than almost any other non-European country.

“I have asked MEPs to sign up to a letter calling on the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini, to suspend the agreement.

“Suspending the EU-Israel Association Agreement would be a strong indication of support for the Palestinian people and for Israel to be held to account for its violations of international law.”
