Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has urged farmers to take heed of a new campaign to improve safety on farms.
Ms Anderson said;
“Farming can be a very dangerous occupation at times. It is important that those involved in the agricultural industry and their families are aware of the dangers.
“Sadly, we are all aware of the tragedies as a result of accidents on farms, which have claimed the live of both farmers and their families.
“This new campaign features the hard-hitting message of the impact farm accidents can have in terms of both the human cost to individuals and families and the potential financial cost to the business.
“While farm accidents cannot be avoided totally, famers and agricultural workers can help improve farm safety by being vigilant, avoiding unnecessary risks and following safety guidelines.
“I would appeal to all farmers and their families to adopt the message of ‘think safety first’ in order to avoid accidents on farms and keep everyone on our farms safe.”
